Gender-Based Violence (GBV) remains a serious public health and human rights issue affecting many individuals and families across Lagos State. To strengthen the response to GBV and improve prevention efforts, CEWHIN in collaboration with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has developed a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on the Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence.

This SOP serves as a comprehensive guide for government agencies, civil society organizations, service providers, and community leaders working to address GBV. It provides clear steps and coordinated approaches to ensure survivors receive timely, effective, and compassionate support.

What the SOP Covers

• Prevention Frameworks: Practical strategies to reduce risk factors and promote community engagement in stopping GBV before it happens.
• Response Pathways: Detailed guidance on how to provide immediate, safe, and survivor-centered services for victims of GBV.
• Roles and Responsibilities: Defined duties for various stakeholders, ensuring an organized and collaborative multi-sectoral response.
• Monitoring and Accountability: Systems to track progress, strengthen coordination, and improve service delivery across the state.

Why This SOP Matters

This SOP is an essential tool for building a coordinated, survivor-centered GBV response system in Lagos State. By aligning the efforts of different sectors – health, social services, law enforcement, legal aid, and community-based organizations. t ensures that no survivor is left without support and that prevention efforts are prioritized.

In addition, CEWHIN in collaboration with LASODA and Centre for Citizen’s with Disabilities also developed an SOP focused on responding to GBV against persons with disabilities (PWDs), ensuring inclusive, accessible, and disability-sensitive services for survivors.
